To explore this topic, I pulled aside two individuals who I knew were hunting for a long-term relationship using online dating websites, and asked them about their experiences with the services. The two services used by these individuals were OKCupid and Match. What I learned from carrying out an interview of a female and the interview of a male trying to dig into this intriguing subject was that using the Internet for dating is equally painful for men and for women, but for very different reasons.
No…online dating involves just cold, shallow text. As far as a guy is concerned, women have it made. They have the choice of the litter.
How to Use Caution When Dating a Widower
Persistence is grossly overrated in dating and romance. Dear Captain, I am a man and I have a problem: I met a friend-of-a-friend a few times before, and we had flirted with each other, so I was feeling confident about our connection. Our group went to a party a while back, and I ended up asking to kiss her when we alone at one point. I backed off physically, but I pressed the point:

For the first 3. The idea of someone else talking to me, touching me, or being anywhere near me, made me want to vomit. Then, about 10 months ago, someone appeared out of the blue. This person was not pursuing me, and I was not pursuing them. But they appeared in such a way and at such a time that it felt like it was meant to happen.

Younger Man / Older Woman
About 40 percent of women and 13 percent of men who are 65 and older are widowed, according to latest census figures. Until recently, very little sound research existed about how we live on after a loved one has died. But in the past decade, social scientists with unprecedented access to large groups of widows and widowers have uncovered five surprising truths about losing a spouse.
If we were to diagram those stages, the emotional trajectory would look something like a large capital W, with two major low points signifying anger or depression, and the top of the last upward leg of the W signifying acceptance.
I have a dear friend whose husband is dying from brain cancer. I was hoping someone would help me learn how to support her better. I do not live close so helping with meals or the kids is not possible.
Should they actively search for another lover? And if they find another lover, while still loving their late spouse, how can these two lovers reside together in their hearts? For widows, is loving again worth the effort of having to adjust to another person? And is widowhood the proper time to fall in love again? The end of love and death For many people, romantic love forms an essential aspect of their lives; without love, life may seem worthless, devoid of meaning.
Romantic love is a central expression of a good, meaningful, and flourishing life. Without love and desire, many people feel that a large part of them is dead. The lover is perceived to be “the sunshine of my life,” and for many, without such sunshine, decay and death are all around. Even in one of the darkest periods of history, the Holocaust, people fell in love, despite the risks of expressing it.
People did not relinquish love, and love even enabled some of them to survive the horror and death around them. Death is perceived to be associated with love in various ways. Thus, romantic breakups are often described as a kind of death. In the words of Dusty Springfield , after such a breakup, “Love seems dead and so unreal, all that’s left is loneliness , there’s nothing left to feel.

Posted on January 17, by Marti Benedetti In November, just after my birthday, and after eight months of dealing with progressively crippling bone pain, I was handed the medical diagnosis of breast cancer that had metastasized into my bones. This is a mother fucker because for months I had mysterious sore and broken ribs, severe back pain, upper leg discomfort, a gradual loss of overall mobility, and I witnessed first hand going from an in-shape, active woman to handicapped.
And to worsen the whole mess, not a single doctor diagnosed my illness over nine months nor did one show interest in the fact that I was becoming seriously ill. The doctors only took blood work, never a CAT scan, MRI or bone scan, any of which would have revealed I had aggressive, bold, gnaw-through-your-bones cancer. So five weeks after being taken to the emergency room because I was paralyzed from the waist down one morning, emergency spine surgery was conducted to remove a cancerous martini pickle-sized tumor.
I spent 10 days in the hospital and went home so my back could heal. I was on massive pain drugs — morphine, Fentanyl, Norco — and hoped that soon I would be able to start cutting back on pain killers and functioning in a more normal way. Well, it has been seven months since then and only recently have I reduced pain meds to only Norco and started walking without a walker and only sometimes with a cane. Friends and family got me to daily radiation treatments.
My appetite and moods are constantly changing. Water tastes bad as do many foods. At night, I get glum and think about dying in a few years.

Guiding you on the path to finding love Suicide is a very egocentric act. Herein lies the dilemma, and the root of the guilt, of a suicide survivor. It is virtually impossible to successfully apply logic to an illogical situation and expect to arrive at a satisfactory answer. In truth, there are very few good explanations why someone would choose death as a solution to a problem, with the exception being the case of euthanasia.
When logic fails to supply any answers, guilt and self-blame are always there as alternatives. Keep in mind, it is very easy to recognize clues in retrospect, but life can only be lived going forward. Thus, we must try to make the best decisions with the information that is in front of us at the moment, along with what we have learned from our experiences. One of the greatest tasks of the survivor is to work towards having these two pathways of emotionality and rationality travel more concurrently and eventually merge to come to a resolution.
The only person for whom one can be responsible is him or herself. One of your tasks is to overcome this feeling that you are damaged goods. I know after I lost my husband to suicide, I would think to myself — Are people going to think that I was such a horrible person that he had to kill himself to get away from me? This was such faulty although natural thinking on my part. Not once did I get a negative reaction about ME because my husband took his own life.

The letter or call from a friend with updates on their life is good. Ask about us but do not over give advice unless asked. I have had many people tell me that I need to get him on SSD and I need to sell my house closer to hospital. Why can’t he drive himself to dr appt. Get his family to help. People keep say oh 20 yrs well that a long time. He will have a full life. We do not have kids but wanted them. I made the comment that maybe should save sperm before treatment.
A family member said to me well you know you will have to raise them by yourself. We know the hard stuff we have to decide so others that are not dealing with it put foot in mouth. If you are close enough it maybe OK and talking is appreciated.
